The Matt and Carol Hubler “One More Day” Family Endowment
Supporting Compassionate Care in the Spirit of St. Francis
At the core of the Matt and Carol Hubler Family’s mission lies a profound belief: healthcare is a fundamental right, not a privilege. In the United States, no one should be deprived of care or forced into financial distress due to the escalating costs of medical treatment. As healthcare expenses continue to soar, the need for financial aid is becoming more pressing, especially for the most vulnerable.
That’s why, in 2010, the Matt and Carol Hubler family established this endowment to support the pastoral mission of Sacred Heart Hospital and the Hospital Sisters, ensuring that compassionate care remains accessible to all.
In 2024, The Hospital Sisters of St. Francis closed the Sacred Heart Hospital in Eau Claire; since then, and with the transfer of funds from The Hospital Sisters of St. Francis Foundation to The Catholic Foundation of West Central Wisconsin, the endowment’s reach now expands to meet the needs of families and individuals in the 19 counties that make up the Diocese of La Crosse who meet the outlined criteria below.
Inspired by the spirit of St. Francis, this endowment helps the “poor and needy” receive the care they deserve. Through this initiative, we partnered with The Catholic Foundation of West Central Wisconsin to uphold healing, hope, and a legacy of community support.

Our Commitment: Community Care Assistance
The Matt and Carol Hubler “One More Day” Family Endowment focuses on making a tangible difference in the lives of patients battling cancer, with a special emphasis on single parents and their families. Here’s how it works:
- Priority Support: Funds go to assist a patient who is a single parent—or a dependent of a single parent—currently undergoing cancer treatment and qualifying for any hospital of the 19 counties of the Diocese of La Crosse Community Care Assistance programs.
- Flexible Impact: If no patient meets these criteria in a given year, the endowment broadens its reach to benefit any patient receiving cancer treatment who qualifies for Community Care Assistance.
By focusing on those facing both health and financial challenges, we aim to lighten their burden and provide a lifeline during one of life’s most challenging moments.

Why This Matters
Healthcare costs are rising exponentially, placing quality care out of reach for many. The Catholic church has long stood as a beacon of hope, creating a network offering exceptional medical care rooted in compassion and faith. Our endowment ensures this mission endures, helping to bridge the gap for patients who might otherwise go without.
Together, we can:
- Provide relief to families facing cancer and financial strain.
- Honor the legacy of St. Francis by caring for the most vulnerable.
- Strengthen our community through accessible, equitable healthcare.
